About This Section

9 July 2008

This section contains information about what I have bought with the vouchers and cash that I have been given as gifts. I’m always very thankful when people give me gifts of any kind, but this is just a little something extra to bring closure to the voucher and cash gift-giving cycle.

Why “Gift Horizon”?

I have referred to vouchers and cash as “black-hole gifts” because there is no way for people to see what their gift turns into after it reaches me. For black-holes, the point where information can no longer escape is called an event horizon. To see what is “going on” inside a black-hole one must reach this point. So a “gift horizon” describes the place where people must go to see what their gifts eventually become!

I guess it is a sign of the times, but I spent your cash on petrol for the car! I was coming back from a party with Gretchen at the time when I realised how low on petrol I was. I had no money on my EFTPOS card so I’m really glad that I hadn’t already spent your cash! Thanks very much for keeping me rolling!

Thanks Barry and Rob. I used your gift to buy a case and memory card for my new camera. Not exactly a “project around the house”, like I said, but something I needed and probably couldn’t have afforded otherwise.

UPDATE: Some more CD’s (Whoops, Hotel California made it in there twice. I thought I had bought that in the second batch. Obviously not.)
